Horizontal Directional Drilling
Precision HDD boring for underground electric and telecom infrastructure — installed beneath roads, developments, and sensitive areas with minimal surface disruption.
Our Core Capability
Trenchless Installation Done Right
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a trenchless method for installing underground utilities without open-cut excavation. A guided drill head creates a pilot bore along a planned path beneath obstacles, followed by reaming to the required diameter and pulling the product pipe or conduit through the opening.
Lehigh Valley Underground operates a range of HDD rigs — from compact units for residential bores to larger machines capable of extended highway and waterway crossings. Every bore is tracked in real-time using locating equipment to ensure accuracy, depth compliance, and avoidance of existing underground infrastructure.
We handle the full HDD process: pilot bore, pre-reaming, pullback, and final conduit or pipe installation — delivered safely and built to specification.

The HDD Process
Three Phases of Every Bore

Pilot Bore
A guided drill head creates a small-diameter pilot hole along a precisely planned path beneath obstacles. Real-time tracking ensures accuracy.
Pre-Ream
The pilot hole is enlarged using a reamer to the required diameter for the product pipe or conduit being installed.
Pullback
The product pipe or conduit is attached to the reamer and pulled back through the enlarged borehole to complete the installation.

What We Bring to Every Bore
Applications
Where We Drill
Road & Highway Crossings
Bore beneath active roadways without lane closures or surface cuts, maintaining traffic flow throughout the project.
Residential Developments
Install electric and telecom infrastructure through neighborhoods with minimal lawn and landscape disruption.
Commercial & Industrial Sites
Navigate under parking lots, sidewalks, and existing structures to place primary conduit runs.
Railroad & Waterway Crossings
Execute permitted bores beneath rail corridors and streams with full compliance to regulatory requirements.
